Ring in the New Year in Myrtle Beach with Marina Inn at Grande Dunes

fireworks, myrtle beach fireworks

These days Myrtle Beach is alive all year round. Rather than having a high season and off season, the Grand Strand has more of a high season and a season “light”. In any event, Myrtle Beach will be booming as we usher in the New Year, and Marina Inn at Grande Dunes truly has the best party (and best deal) in town!

Our Annual New Year’s Eve event begins at 7:30 p.m. on December 31 with an hour long lavish reception consisting of butler passed hors d’oeuvres, a grand seafood display featuring crab claws, jumbo shrimp and cocktail oysters, and premium spirits and select wines will be served as well. Following the reception, guests will move into the Nautilus ballroom to enjoy a meticulously presented four course meal created by Executive Chef, Byron Bondoc. Dance the night away to the sounds of the Grand Strand’s own, Tim Clark Band, and welcome 2020 with a traditional New Year’s celebration at midnight complete with balloon drop!

Admission for the Marina Inn at Grande Dunes Annual New Year’s Eve event is $139 per person which includes all food and beverages for the night, live entertainment, and party favors. Want to simply take the elevator home? Starting at just $400 per couple, you can attend the New Year’s Eve reception, dinner and party, and enjoy luxury accommodations for the night at Marina Inn at Grande Dunes. Reservations for the New Year’s Eve event must be made in advance by calling 843-913-1333. Click here to make your New Year’s Eve package/accommodations reservations or to check for availability.

Perhaps you’d like to ring in the New Year in Myrtle Beach, but do your own thing for the night…no problem! Here are a few suggestions for celebrating New Year’s Eve in Myrtle Beach:

A Southern Times Square – Market Common

You’ve heard of New Year’s Eve in Times Square and the ball drop, but how about watching an enormous disco ball drop in Myrtle Beach to ring in 2020? Market Common is once again hosting its “A Southern Times Square” to usher in 2020. This outdoor festival is an ultimate block party with revelers gathering to enjoy live music, food, and libations. Inflatables, street performers and activities will be available for younger party goers as well. Just before midnight, everyone joins together at Valor Park to watch as the sparkly, shiny ball is lowered. When the clock strikes midnight, a massive fireworks display will illuminate the sky. It all begins at 9 p.m.

Light up the New Year – Brookgreen Gardens

Didn’t make it to Nights of a Thousand Candles? Not to worry, enjoy a similar experience on New Year’s Eve. Walk through the magical gardens illuminated by hand lit candles and holiday lights while music plays in the background. Light refreshments will also be available for purchase. This event only runs from 6-9 p.m., so perhaps venture to the nearby Murrells Inlet MarshWalk to finish out the night and ring in 2020!

Murrells Inlet MarshWalk

Visit the “Seafood Capital of South Carolina” for a New Year’s Eve feast, and stay for live entertainment. Enjoy the many levels of dining from casual to fine dining. Many MarshWalk restaurants will be offering dinner and drink specials for New Year’s Eve. Take a stroll down the MarshWalk after dinner and take in the various live music offerings. Rest assured, you’ll be in good company when 2020 arrives!

In addition to the New Year’s Eve celebrations listed above, there are also several fireworks displays on tap for welcoming 2020!

Barefoot Landing | 7 p.m.

Broadway at the Beach | 8 p.m.

Market Common | 12 a.m.

We hope to see you at Marina Inn at Grande Dunes to celebrate the New Year!

Christmas in Myrtle Beach

Myrtle Beach is the sun fun capital of summertime destinations, but there is also great holiday fun to be had on the Grand Strand as well! We have some options to get you into the holiday spirit!

Holiday Shows

Myrtle Beach is known for its music theaters, and during the holiday season, area theaters put on sell out Christmas shows each year. The Carolina Opry, Alabama Theater and Pirate’s Voyage are consistent holiday favorites, and new for 2019, is a Christmas on Ice show. We also offer a special Carolina Opry Christmas Show package. Coastal Youth Ballet Theater also puts on several performances of the holiday favorite, The Nutcraker, at nearby Coastal Carolina University.

Holiday Lights

A great light show is sure to get you in the holiday mood, and the Grand Strand is the home to the granddaddy of all light shows, Brookgreen Gardens’ Nights of a Thousand Candles. Held at the 9,127-acre sculpture gardens in Murrells Inlet, this holiday spectacular features 4,500 hand-lit candles and countless twinkling lights of various types and colors. Guests can stroll through the gardens taking in the sights and sounds of the season. Nights of a Thousand Candles runs every Thursday through Sunday night in December, but you must purchase tickets in advance. How about a drive by light show? Head up to North Myrtle Beach and check out the Great Christmas Light Show at the North Myrtle Beach Park and Sports Complex. This 1.5-mile drive through show features 2-million dazzling lights within 20 animated displays. End your ride at Santa’s Village for s’mores and hot chocolate! The Great Christmas Light Show runs November 25 through December 30.

Shopping

The Myrtle Beach area is a shopper’s paradise with everything from indoor shopping malls to outlet malls and smaller, local boutiques. A little retail therapy is fun any time of year, but there’s just something special about shopping during the holidays. All of the area shopping spots are decked out in full holiday regalia this time of year, with Christmas music piped in to set the mood, and there are always special events going on at the shopping destinations during the season. We even offer a holiday shopping package which includes a $50 Visa gift card!

Nights of a Thousand Candles – A Holiday Favorite

Courtesy of Brookgreen Gardens

Brookgreen Gardens is a popular Grand Strand attraction and local’s favorite. A visit to Brookgreen is truly a treat any time of year, but every December the gardens turn into a magical light show and one of the area’s favorite holiday traditions with Nights of a Thousand Candles.

Starting December 5 – 21, every Thursday through Sunday night beginning at 3 p.m., guests of Nights of a Thousand Candles can stroll around the 9,127-acre sculpture gardens and take in the 4,500 hand lit candles and numerous twinkling lights. Each turn is a new discovery with colored and themed light displays intermingled with candlelit paths and fountains featuring floating candles. Walk beneath the live oaks strewn with twinkling white lights and covered in live Spanish moss. Sip on hot cocoa, cider, or a glass of wine while listening to the sounds of carolers singing holiday favorites. Then maybe warm up with clam chowder or she-crab soup at the food tent. Whether it’s a romantic date night, family outing or night out with good friends Nights of a Thousand Candles is sure to provide ample holiday cheer for all.

In 2018, the Nights of a Thousand Candles was honored by South Carolina Parks, Recreation and Tourism with the Charles A. Bundy Award for Excellence in Tourism. Additionally, the event was also named Best Christmas Lights in South Carolina by Travel + Leisure Magazine. Being that Nights of a Thousand Candles always ranks at the top of Grand Strand holiday attractions, tickets do sell out quickly and must be purchased ahead of time.

Located just 15 miles south of Downtown Myrtle Beach, Brookgreen Gardens is convenient to dining and shopping on the South Strand. Have dinner on the MarshWalk in the “Seafood Capital of South Carolina”, Murrells Inlet. Maybe even go a little further south to historic Pawleys Island. The food and beverage tent at Nights of a Thousand Candles also serves dishes to warm you up during this festive, outdoor holiday event. Onsite dining is also available at the Brookgreen Gardens restaurant; however, reservations are strongly recommended.

Planning a trip to the Myrtle Beach area in December? Nights of a Thousand Candles is a holiday event you do not want to miss. Start a new holiday tradition with Brookgreen Gardens and Nights of a Thousand Candles! For more information or to purchase tickets, visit Brookgreen Gardens online.

Myrtle Beach is known as a top summer vacation destination, but did you know it has become one of the top holiday destinations on the east coast in recent years? The Grand Strand area is not nearly as seasonal these days, and that may be attributed in part to the quantity and quality of entertainment offered here year-round.

The Carolina Opry – A Top Myrtle Beach Attraction

The Myrtle Beach area has been a country music hotbed for years. Of course, country music legends, Alabama, got their start right on Ocean Boulevard at the world-famous Bowery, the Carolina Country Music Festival (CCMF) has been held in Myrtle Beach for the past four years, and there was even a Myrtle Beach country music jamboree in the early ‘80s featuring major country artists like Conway Twitty, Johnny Cash, Tammy Wynette and more. With that history, it’s no surprise that Calvin Gilmore envisioned the Grand Strand to be a good place to start a country music theater. In 1986, the Carolina Opry was opened in Surfside Beach (right on Highway 17 near the intersection of Surfside Drive and 17 Business). They started out with just 12 performers and were the only music theater in the area for seven years.

In 1992, the current location of the Carolina Opry opened where highways 17 Business and Bypass meet on the north end of the Strand. By this time, Myrtle Beach was beginning to look like Branson, Missouri with its multiple dinner/music/show offerings. At one time there were quite a few theaters in town. Some have come and gone, but the Carolina Opry has remained a staple and major Myrtle Beach attraction for more than 30 years.

The award-winning Carolina Opry was named “Most Outstanding South Carolina Attraction” by the South Carolina’s Governor’s Cup. Additionally, Carolina Opry performers have been featured on nationally televised shows like The Voice and America’s Got Talent. What was originally a country music show has evolved over the years to cover a wide variety of music genres. Carolina Opry has also added many special themed shows, some of which run year round, most notably their annual Christmas show which sells out year after year.

A night at the Carolina Opry is a perfect date night or good fun for an entire family or large group. Customers love its close proximity to Marina Inn Grande Dunes, so be sure and add it to your itinerary while staying with us. With that in mind, check out the special Carolina Opry package deals available on our packages page. Come stay with us and enjoy the music!

Top Outdoor Shopping in Myrtle Beach

As we move into the milder fall season, what better way to take it all in than with a little outdoor shopping? The Myrtle Beach area has been a great shopping destination for many years, but these days there are even more of the outdoor variety which seems to have become a trend all over the country recently.

So you’re in town looking for a little retail therapy, but you would also like to enjoy the fresh fall air? Where should you start? We have put together a great list for you! We’ll start closer to the Marina Inn Grande Dunes location and work out from there.

Tanger Outlet

Tanger Outlet has outlet malls all over the country and two right here on the Grand Strand. The closest to Marina Inn Grande Dunes is the one located just off Highway 17. Outlets are a great shopping choice for those who desire high quality, but do not want to pay high quality prices. This location offers more than 95 stores with high profile brands such as; Vineyard Vines, Kate Spade, Michael Kors, Ann Taylor LOFT, Adidas and more. There is also a food court located within the property. Stop by their customer service office to receive coupon books and other special offers. Tanger Outlets – Myrtle Beach is located at 10835 Kings Rd. in Myrtle Beach.

Barefoot Landing

Barefoot Landing is the original outdoor shopping destination for the Myrtle Beach area going way back to when it was a collection of small shops with rustic, sandy walkways. Today, it is a shopper’s paradise with everything from small, specialty gift shops to larger, national chain anchor stores. Additionally, if you’re making a day out of it, there are various eating establishments within the property as well as other attractions like Alligator Adventure, Alabama Theater, and the House of Blues. A recent addition, Lulu’s restaurant, owned by Jimmy Buffet’s sister, Lucy offers waterfront dining and an outdoor activity area featuring a ropes course and arcade. After shopping ‘til you drop, relax with a drink in hand while the kids play! Barefoot Landing is located at 4898 Hwy. 17 S. in North Myrtle Beach.

Market Common

Market Common has become a Myrtle Beach must visit destination since it’s development in 2008. Located on what was once the Myrtle Beach Air Force Base (closed in 1993), the 114-acre lifestyle center was designed as a live/work community incorporating shopping, dining and living space into one city center. Beautifully landscaped walkways with fountains, park benches and rocking chairs create an exquisite shopping atmosphere at Market Common. A collection of higher end shops selling everything from apparel to art and home decor, Market Common offers something for everyone. A large Barnes and Noble as well as a 14-screen movie theater are located onsite as well. In addition to the superior shopping experience, Market Common also offers a host of popular eating establishments from the larger, nationally known P.F. Changs to smaller, local eateries. Additionally, there is a full schedule of events going on year-round at Market Common–everything from 5K races to food and drink festivals as well as seasonal carriage rides, movies in the park and more. Market Common is located at 4017 Deville St. in Myrtle Beach.

Hammock Shops Village

So this one is a southern hike from Marina Inn Grande Dunes, but well worth the trip. Located in the “arrogantly shabby” Pawleys Island, this eclectic shopping village has been around since 1938. The Hammock Shops offer a variety of small boutiques featuring everything from handmade collectables and jewelry to clothing and candy. Of course they call it the “Hammock” Shops for a reason…be sure and stop by the Original Pawleys Island Rope Hammock Shop where you can view first hand the art of hammock weaving and purchase one of your very own to take home! Hammock Shops Village is located at 10880 Ocean Hwy. in Pawleys Island.

Be sure and check the Marina Inn Grande Dunes specials page for upcoming package deals, book your stay and get the retail therapy started!

Sipping Sweetly – Duplin Winery

Looking for a great way to unwin(e)d while visiting the Grand Strand? Visit one of the Myrtle Beach area’s favorite attractions, Duplin Winery, voted Best Wine Tasting Bar by MyrtleBeach.com. Though you wouldn’t think of the Myrtle Beach area as wine country, we do have our own signature wine in this part of the world–sweet muscadine wine, made from the muscadine grape. The muscadine grape is native to the Southeastern United States and found primarily in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Mississippi, and Florida. Muscadine grapes are larger than average grapes with a much thicker skin as well. They are known for their sweet taste and strong aromatics. There are red and white varieties, but all are generally served chilled unlike most reds which are served room temperature.

Originally out of Rose Hill, NC, Duplin Winery, a three generation, family-owned winery, has been producing muscadine wines since the 1970s. In 2015, Duplin brought their delicious wine to the Myrtle Beach area with the opening of their second location. The winery offers a variety of muscadine wines such as; sweet reds, sweet whites and a dry Burgundy. Some of their award-winning Carolina wines include Magnolia, featured in Martha Stewart Living as a favorite summertime wine, Hatteras Red, a North Carolina favorite, and Scuppernong, America’s oldest wine. Situated right on Highway 17 just as you enter North Myrtle Beach and in front of Barefoot Landing, Duplin Winery offers daily tastings, special events, tours, a cafe and a gift shop selling wine and wine accessories and other local items to take home with you or even back to your hotel room.

A new favorite at Duplin Winery is the Sweetzer mix. Sweetzer is a specially designed mix specifically made to blend with corresponding Duplin wines and create a sweet, frozen treat–a wine slushie, if you will. What a great way to enjoy the already delicious Duplin wines!

A day spent at Duplin Winery may include educating yourself on their wine-making procedures, watching the bottling process, and shopping in the gift shop. Of course the best part of the Duplin Winery experience is just enjoying live music in the courtyard or or a nice breeze on the front porch sitting one of their many rocking chairs, all while sipping your favorite Duplin wine selection.

Did you know the Marina Inn Grande Dunes offers Duplin Winery package? Check out our package page for the details.

Duplin Winery is open Monday – Saturday, 11 a.m. until 8 p.m.
